2027 has a strong early line-up for moviegoers across the world. Hollywood studios are bringing back major franchises, animated favourites and new science-fiction adventures, while Indian cinema has several large-scale projects on its own calendar. Some dates are confirmed directly by studios; others are still release-calendar listings and can move.
This guide focuses on films with meaningful global or franchise interest. Dates are shown as announced for the relevant market, usually the US or the studio’s stated theatrical date. International release dates, including India, may differ.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew opens the year
Greta Gerwig is directing Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, an adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s novel that explores the origins of the Narnia world. Netflix’s Tudum announcement says the film is planned for IMAX and theatrical release on February 12, 2027. The cast includes David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep.
Star Wars: Starfighter brings a new story to the galaxy
Lucasfilm has set Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Directed by Shawn Levy, the standalone adventure stars Ryan Gosling alongside Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams and others. Unlike a direct continuation of the Skywalker saga, the film introduces new characters and a story set in a different period of the franchise timeline.
June is packed with animation and franchise sequels
Universal’s release schedule lists How to Train Your Dragon 2 for June 11 and Shrek 5 for June 30. Sony Pictures Animation lists Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for June 18. That makes June one of the busiest months currently visible on the 2027 calendar, especially for family audiences and animation fans.
The Spider-Verse film continues Miles Morales’ story after the cliffhanger of Across the Spider-Verse. Sony’s official project page describes Miles as hunted by Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society while trying to find a way home.
October and November bring horror, fantasy and Disney animation
Universal’s schedule currently lists a new Mummy franchise film for October 14 and an untitled Daniels-directed event film for November 18. Disney lists Frozen 3 for November 24. The latter is likely to be one of the year’s major family releases, although the studio has not yet revealed a full story synopsis.
Major Indian films also belong on the 2027 watchlist
The global calendar is not only about Hollywood. Indian films with international ambitions include SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, currently listed for April 7, 2027, and Prabhas’ Spirit, whose release date remains inconsistent across public calendars. Other Hindi releases listed for the year include Love & War, Naagzilla, Force 3 and Beparwah.

What about Avengers: Secret Wars?
Marvel’s next major Avengers chapter is one of the titles fans are watching for 2027, but release schedules and studio plans can change. We are not assigning it a date in this calendar without a current, directly verifiable studio listing. The same rule applies to other projects that are announced but do not yet have a firm theatrical date.
How this list is maintained
We prioritise official studio release calendars and production-company announcements. When a date comes from a third-party movie calendar, it is labelled as a listing rather than a confirmed announcement. India release dates are added separately when distributors publish them. This prevents a US release date from being mistaken for the Indian theatrical date.
